The Church of Saint Anthony Abbot
The Pieve di Mura di Savallo, once the largest in the Brescia diocese, underwent a process of division starting from the 14th century, with the creation of the parish of Barbaine, which included the valleys of Tòvere and Degnone. In 1955, the Vicaria Foranea di Mura was limited to the parishes of Casto, Comero, Alone, and Malpaga, which were later reduced to just the first two. The parish of Casto, initially a mercenary curacy, became autonomous in the 17th century, retaining the right of the Vicinia to propose candidates for the appointment of the parish priest until 1929. The church of Casto was consecrated on September 21, 1532, and it is believed that the construction work was completed between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century.
The Sanctuary of the Annunziata, later Church of St. Bernardino
The Sanctuary of the Annunziata in Malpaga, originally built as a small chapel in the late 16th or early 17th century, has a history marked by long local controversies. The dispute revolved around the rivalry between the Sanctuary and the nearby Church of St. Bernardino, both vying to become parishes. In 1660, Bishop Pietro Ottoboni partially resolved the conflict by granting the baptismal font to St. Bernardino and the cemetery to the Annunziata. The controversy continued until 1751, when the autonomous parish of Malpaga was finally established. The issue reached a tragic conclusion in 1820, when a landslide destroyed the Church of St. Bernardino, effectively ending the dispute. Since then, the Sanctuary of the Annunziata became the sole parish church, also retaining the title of St. Bernardino. The building was later renovated in a neoclassical style.

The Sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve
The Sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve above Auro, one of the main artistic treasures of Casto, was built following a miracle that occurred on August 1, 1527, when the Virgin appeared to a shepherd, Bartolomeo Silvestri. The request for the construction of the sanctuary was approved in 1531 by the Bishop of Brescia, and the work was completed in 1555. The building was later expanded and restored in the 17th century, acquiring its current appearance. The interior, rich in Rococo frescoes and stuccoes, is famous for the painting “Saint Anthony Abbot” by Moretto and for the wooden works from the Boscaì workshop, such as the altar frontal of the Altare Maggiore. The sanctuary also houses an organ by Gaetano Callido, although it is currently non-operational. The sacred image of the Madonna, venerated by the population of Savallo, is carried in procession twice a year, on May 26 and August 1, the anniversary of the apparition.
The Church of St. Charles in Briale
The Church of St. Charles in Briale is the smallest in all of Savallo, although it cannot be considered artistically poor. Its architecture, both external and internal, is indeed humble, but its historical and religious significance is remarkable, as it is closely tied to the devotion to St. Charles Borromeo.

The Church of St. Sylvester
The Parish Church of St. Sylvester, located in Comero, is actually in the hamlet of Famea, a detail that, although unusual, has a historical explanation. The parish of St. Sylvester, which included the villages of Comero, Famea, Briale, and Auro, was established on July 19, 1557, by a papal bull that separated it from the large Pieve of Mura. Despite a fifteen-year dispute with the archpriest of Mura, the inhabitants of the area expanded and beautified the church, adding altars, a bell tower, a baptismal font, and a cemetery. The sixteenth-century building also housed works by Venetian artists such as Palma the Younger and Baldassare d’Anna, reflecting the economic prosperity of the newly formed parish.
The Church of St. Lawrence
The Church of St. Lawrence in Alone is an important landmark in the municipal territory of Casto. It is the patron saint of blacksmiths and metalworkers and stands out as one of the first churches to separate from the Pieve of Mura, which once encompassed much of the upper Valsabbia. Its consecration in 1498, in the presence of significant prelates, marked a key moment in the life of the village, which had already established itself as a vital and dynamic center of the area. Today, the village of Alone, with its rich historical heritage, preserves traces of an extraordinary past, including houses, frescoes, and inscriptions that tell the story of its long tradition.
