A Corner of History Immersed in Rock
On the road that leads from Casto to Alone, after about one kilometer, in a historically and environmentally significant context, remarkable for its suggestiveness, various via ferrata routes and climbing gyms of varying difficulty levels have been created. Specifically, the ferrata route, arranged in a loop, consists of fourteen independent and aligned sections, totaling 1,700 meters in length with a vertical gain of around 500 meters. At the end of each section, it is possible to exit and continue on the trail. The route also crosses two Tibetan bridges, and with a simple detour, one can pass through the narrow Stretta di Luina , a canyon 460 meters long, 1-2 meters wide, and 30-35 meters deep, a spectacular site of incredible rock erosion. It is only passable uphill and requires the use of proper equipment, while the ferratas are all challenging. The total time for completion is around four hours, and both the start and end points are along the road to Alone, near Corna Zana.
For enthusiasts of historical routes, it is possible to visit an old industrial district consisting of six fucine (forges), a smelting furnace, a mill, and a lime kiln. The complex was operational until 1930 and produced iron tools for over five centuries, using water as the driving force. Along the same route, there are three climbing gyms with varying levels of difficulty, ensuring that all enthusiasts can enjoy themselves. As if that weren’t enough, a group of structures suitable for exploring and learning about this stunning area has been added, with additional routes being developed. A major attraction is the two Zip Line cables, which, with the necessary precautions, allow visitors to soar over the recreational area with ponds on the Torrente Regazzina. A beautiful hiking circuit also lets you visit and enjoy truly unique natural sites like the Pisot Waterfall, Pos de l’Acqà, and Pisarì del Cociarì. A final noteworthy mention is that work is currently underway, and soon cycling trails will be available, forming a loop and connecting to other routes, with a considerable length of approximately 35 kilometers.
